Victorian watercolour, Swiss Chalet Near River Lahn, attributed to Thomas Miles Richardson Junior R.W.S. (1813-1890). Watercolour on paper in a professional hand coloured double mount and period Victorian ebonised and gilded frame. The painting depicting an Alpine village is typical, both in style and the subject matter, of the pictures by Thomas Miles Richardson junior, who specialised in rural European and English views, mainly using watercolour medium. This picture is very finely painted with a meticulous attention to detail. Reverse of the painting bears a piece of an old backing board with an inscription and dated 1852.

Condition: Antique - crease in the paper in the upper left corner (top of the tree), a few chips on the frame

Size: 60.5 cm Height, 70 cm Wide

The long Victorian period (1838-1901) spanned over an immensely prolific time in the history of art and design. It covers such great fashions as Gothic Revival, the Pre-Raphaelites, Aesthetic Movement, Expressionism, Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau. That was quite unlike any other period.
