Victorian watercolour, Swiss Chalet Near River Lahn, attributed to Thomas Miles Richardson Junior R.W.S. (1813-1890). Watercolour on paper in a professional hand coloured double mount and period Victorian ebonised and gilded frame. The painting depicting an Alpine village is typical, both in style and the subject matter, of the pictures by Thomas Miles Richardson junior, who specialised in rural European and English views, mainly using watercolour medium. This picture is very finely painted with a meticulous attention to detail. Reverse of the painting bears a piece of an old backing board with an inscription and dated 1852.

Style note — products made in the traditional Victorian style are often recognisable because of their lavish decoration. The design mixes various sources of inspiration, but the prevalent decorative features are rich floral ornaments, scrolls and foliage, often applied all over the items.
