Rustic brass fire starter jug of a tapered shape with a whale tail handle, of the Arts & Crafts style, by Cape Cod Shop; antique American circa 1900. The jug would have been filled with a flammable oil; a stick with a pumice stone is dipped into the jug to soak the oil and then used to light the fireplace fire.

Among other sources, the style drew its inspiration from the mythology of the British Isles and from the fabulous legends about king Arthur. The products were designed to a high standard, using traditional materials and techniques.
