This is a typical portrait mask, known as Mblo, from the Baule People of the Ivory Coast in Western Africa. Well carved with arching eyebrows, raised scarification marks on the cheeks and the temples; an elaborate coif parted in the middle. The carved and well polished surface has some traces of the original decoration around the eyes, eyebrows and the chin areas.
Condition: antique - vertical split in the wood from the base of the nose to the beard
