Flamboyant and rare pair of wine bottle or decanter coasters for the dinner table, in papier mache stained red with painted gold and black decoration. Antique English Georgian style and period, from circa 1800. It is rare to find papier mache wine coasters of this period in good condition.

Condition: surface wear, surface cracks around one base, scratched

Size: Height: 4.5 cm Diameter: 13 cm

Style notes — Georgian period mainly refers to the second half of the 18th century and up to the 1820s. The style was predominantly neo-classical, that looked back at the ancient Greece and Rome and used those elements in design and decoration. Most Georgian items have straight and very clean lines and elegant repetitive floral patterns.
