Aesthetic Movement tureen
Spectacular ceramic tureen and lid with a ladle, with Montreal blue and gilded pattern, of the Aesthetic Movement style; antique English 1880s.
Condition: some surface wear
Aesthetic style was very popular in the 1870s and 1880s. The homewares in Aesthetic fashion were elegantly designed and useful; the decoration had to be aesthetic, which meant elegant, tasteful and not garish. Design elements were inspired by the imports of ceramics, lacquer furniture and fabrics from the Far East.

Porcelain, ironstone and pottery are tough materials. Wash all ceramics normally in a warm water with a sponge. Be gentle with overglaze decorations.
